Shoulder and knee treatments start with a comprehensive evaluation of your injury. Your doctor will examine the injured area, determine your medical history and take an X-ray and / or MRI scan. Remedial care usually begins with non-surgical procedures such as anti-inflammatory medication, hot and cold compresses and ultrasound. If surgery is required, you will be advised. Arthroscopic surgeryArthroscopic surgery or ‘key hole surgery’ is one of the latest forms of surgery, which involves making a tiny incision into the joint. The incision is smaller than a buttonhole and enables the surgeon to perform the necessary procedure via an arthroscope (a small viewing instrument) connected to a TV monitor. The procedure takes a mere 1 to 2 hours and the tiny incision means pain is kept to a minimum and patients can recover more quickly. Open surgeryIf there are complexities or major tears in the joint, open surgery may be required. Recovery and rehabilitation in this case will take longer. However, in either situation, patients may be discharged within 1 to 2 days. Common shoulder problems
