Douglas Ladner, 43
(Sports Development Consultant) Douglas had surgery done to his knees at another hospital but the surgery “didn’t go as planned.” “Let's just say, the surgery needed a revision,” he says. As a result, he came to Dr Saw and was impressed with his knowledge of the problem and his effort to communicate the problem to him. Of course, he was also pleased to note the good facilities and welcoming atmosphere of the hospital. Douglas had an Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction done to his knee, together with the stem cell technology KLSMC has helped pioneer. Douglas had read a little about stem cells before but he was quite impressed by how it could be used in orthopaedic treatment. It was particularly interesting to learn how the cells could naturally come back and grow original tissue in his knee. Two months after the surgery, Douglas says it's still too early to note any difference but he believes that in time, there will be much better cushioning in his knee. He also adds that he was a bit concerned about the whole process of taking blood (required for the stem cell treatment) as he heard that it could be uncomfortable but, “there was no problem at all,” he says with a big smile. He also praises the ‘wonderful physiotherapist’ who doubles up as his Malay language teacher. Every time he comes in for treatment, she gives him a new peribahasa (Malay saying) to learn. For this sports lover and father of four, friendly staff can make all the difference.
