ABOUT US
How it began
Founder and senior partner, Dr SAW Khay Yong, started his private practice in 1997 at Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur, specializing in General Orthopaedics with a focus on sports injury and arthroscopic surgery. In 2000, Dr Tay Yong Guan joined him, bringing in his specializations in total knee replacement as well as arthroscopic surgery. Following that, other partners joined the practice equipping the group with a diverse collection of sub-specializations: Dr Ranjit Singh GILL (hand and microsurgery), Dr Edmund ONG (hip and spine surgery) and Dr LOW Tze Choong (foot and ankle surgery). With the establishment of this multi-skilled team of sub-specialists, Dr SAW currently concentrates on arthroscopic surgery of the knee.
In 2002, the group set up its own physiotherapy unit at Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre. However, as the patient numbers increased, the doctors saw a need for more space and a higher level of patient care. Hence, the concept of the Kuala
Lumpur Sports Medicine Centre was conceived with an emphasis on sports related injuries. Each surgeon concentrates on his or her chosen area of interest, whether it be knee, shoulder, hand, spine or foot and ankle.
Under the supervision of Consultant Radiologist, Dr Shahrin MERICAN, an imaging centre was established, offering improved Radiography and MRI services such as Digital Radiography (for full length standing spine views and lower limb X-rays) and Open MRI (for detailed musculo-skeletal imaging). In addition, the imaging centre is equipped with a web-enabled Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS). All studies are archived and can be transmitted to other parts of the world for further opinions and remote reporting.
KLSMC opened its doors in October 2005 and now attracts patients,
doctors and medical referrals from all over the region. Sports
Imaging offers state-of-the-art imaging equipment
to facilitate accurate diagnoses. The Sports
Clinic provides a conducive environment for consultation
and treatment including post-operative care and outpatient follow-up.
The Sports Physiotherapy
unit is staffed by specialized therapists who have an interest in
hand rehabilitation, knee, shoulder, spine, foot and ankle physiotherapy.
There is also a roof top hydrotherapy
pool to complement the present facilities and a
surgery centre to complement the present facilities.
Philosophy
Our objective is to treat patients effectively and efficiently. In the process of interaction with our patients, we help them gain a better insight into their medical problems and how they can deal with it. KLSMC places a strong emphasis on quality and is dedicated to providing you with a
